I had the pleasure of teaching this great family the ASA 101 basic keel boat course at the end of December of 2017 in San Carlos. Since Cliff and Nelda live up in the Pacific Northwest they appear to have ice water coursing through their veins! They went swimming at Martini Cove.
Thanks for coming down guys!!
A nice couple of hour day sail with a sready 12 knot breeze!!
Agustin and I had two very nice 10 knot days and one light wind day for the ASA 104 Bareboat charter course!
We also had one fine day of dolphin sailing. The you tube link below is from a video shot a few years back and the ? pics are from a different course, i will post tge current dolphin pics shortly!
The beauty of sailing in summer is the warm water of the Sea of Cortez. So with that in mind Dan from Colorado and Jim from Alaska, who now lives in Yuma had three perfect days of 8 – 10 knot winds and 80 degree water.
I will get the pictures posted shortly. I am actually doing mt first blog post with an Android smart phone and the WordPress app!
Seven great days of sailing with the boys from Utah. We had almost every conceivable condition you could get, first day during the memorial day regatta was a strong north westerly wind with many days of great southerly winds to follow. Dan, Brady, Chris and Jon had some wonderful Sea of Cortes moments. Two great bottle nose dolphin sailing days were recorded during our week. During those days I was able to get some great ID shots for our new dolphin catalog we are starting up for WorldsAquarium. We also spotted a few sea lions in the bay and the last day was particularly interesting with great spear fishing plus a turtle and three manta’s observed. We even stopped a commercial fisherman from trying to hook one of those manta’s up for dinner!! So seven great sailing days at the end of May! Thanks to the boys from Utah for coming down!!! I will be working on the video over the next week of so and post it when finished!!
So we did several days on Sandia and a few days on Marc’s 35 Cal which was a great boat to sail. Very much rigged like our 32 Ericson. The Cal 35 has a well positioned main sheet right in front of the companion way which makes sheeting and jibbing the boat a piece of cake! We had great wind over the 5 days and it was a blast sailing with you Gents!!
So it was a grand pleasure to teach the highly motivated mid westerners, Rob the adventurer Linnea the dolphin whisperer, to sail. There is no doubt after this course that Ron and Linnea could handle Sandia our 32 foot Ericson with out any assistance from the likes of me! Luckily they stayed for 10 days which gave us a bit of wiggle room because of the 35 knot storm day that was a cause for cancelling a day. I can pretty much count on one finger the total number of days we have cancelled due to excessive winds over the 20 years we have been sailing.
And I will remind you guys that I do owe you a couple of days of sailing on the our 40 foot trimaran when you come back!! Got to take a sail on the dark side right!
Rob is no stranger to adventure, here is a link to his 2014 summer trip rafting 1,600 plus miles on the Mississippi river!
Hope to see you guys again soon and remember this summer, JUST KEEP SAILING!!!!
I always tell my prospective sailing students to come in October. It is the nicest month of year. Warm water and the beginning of the north west winds. This year was no exception. The water was indeed warm and the air temps were as well and we caught many fish this week, including several sierra not pictured above. I have helped Kim look at several boats during the week and with any luck Kim will soon have her affairs settled in Anchorage and be on her way to her new adventure of sailing the Sea of Cortes!!
