A nice couple of hour day sail with a sready 12 knot breeze!!
This weekend we had a lot of fun being the chase boat for the Tucson Sailing Clubs Memorial Day Regatta. I also had lots of great volunteers, James, Liz, Clair haha my Clair, Margaret, Diego and Rick helping us on the chase boat. Thanks Tony, hope we can see you next year!!! Here are some pictures, the first day I only had my cell phone so some of the pictures are not great resolution!
So we had pretty much all conditions on this course. From super light winds to strong southwesterly’s to a decent northwesterly wind on our last day that shredded our main sail on our 50ft. Gulf Star.
Jean Paul lives in San Miguel de Allende, his son Bart in Dallas and Jim is in Tucson. We had 5 days of all conditions from light wind to strong wind and cloudy days to sunny days. We sailed three distinctly different sailing vessels this week. Our 32 ft Ericsson, then a 36 PDQ catamaran and the last day we hauled ass on our custom 36 ft. double AA Piver Windsplitter! The fishing didn’t suck either, we caught many bonita and a yellowtail as well.
Peter and his lovely wife Ellen came down from Tucson for a three day course, thanks so much again for the plane ride, here are pictures from your course I got some great Dolphin Id shots. This trip we didn’t have to go find dolphins, the dolphins came to us right in the Bay two days in a row!!!! We will see you at the end of October!!
So the great thing about teaching sailing in September is that opportunity to drop the anchor at various spots in the bay and enjoy the warm blue water that the Sea of Cortes is famous for. Wind can be spotty in September but Alejandra and Pete had pretty much 7 days of decent wind. We were never skunked and had sailable wind every day. The local population of Bottle nose dolphins that we are doing research on even came to visit us sailing in the bay on two consecutive days. Pete and Alejandra are also a sky divers and Pete is a base jumper so it was fun to see some of his videos of BASE jumping in England. It has renewed my interest in sky diving so I might just have to do it!!! Thanks again fo Pete and Alejandra for coming down, I hope to visit you guys some days across the pond!!!
Here are some pics from the Week!!
Here are the pictures from Verne 7 day course. His son Antonio showed up for a few days and Dave from Chicago had was with us for 4 out of the 7 days. We had one really great dolphin day along with the chance to sail Paul and Jo’s Norm Cross 50 foot trimaran, a real piece of sailing history!!Â
I have a video I will post on our sailing course and some of Verne’s ID pictures of dolphins soon!! Thanks everyone!!
Paul and Jo had three nice days of sailing in the middle of March. We even got to see a nice group of common dolphin about 5 miles off shore. Unfortunately we didn’t get a local bottle nose dolphin day. After completing the 101 basic keel boat they went ahead a purchased a piece of sailing history. A Norm Cross 50 ketch rigged multihull. I will get the pictures posted of that boat pronto!!
The end of February was a bit chilly but the winds stayed down to managble strength for the brothers from Phoenix and Seattle!! We had some excellent dolphin days and I got without a doubt new ID pictures from this trip.
Thanks for coming down guys and sorry it took so long to get these pictures posted.
