Jon & Laura Sailing the Vermillion Sea

Jon & Laura Sailing the Vermillion Sea

Finished up a 101 ASA basic Keel boat class today with Jon and Laura from Tucson. Jon is a private pilot so teaching an ASA 101 for those guys is as we say in Spanish, Pan Comido, a piece of cake. I forgot my camera today but Jon just sent me these pics. We found the local pod of bottle nose dolphins in front of the Posada today and they hung on the bow wave for several passes and then of course the red algae was wild looking. Winds were around 10 to 13 knots as predicted so it was a damn nice day out there. Thanks to Jon and Laura for taking the course!!!

I really love the Red Algal Bloom shots that Jon took today, some of the images remind me of a shot you might get from the Hubble Space Telescope of a gaseous nebula thousands of light years away. We should not forget that the first real European name for the Gulf of California came from Cortes. He called it the Vermillion Sea because of these red algal blooms.

Another Beautiful November Sail

Another Beautiful November Sail

Kevin finished up his refersher course with me today and we caught some beautiful light southern winds with a taste of fog in them today and then when the wind died we took a quick snorkel session at Martini Cove. So here are some nice pictures of the Teta Kawi with a hint of fog in them, thanks Kevin for coming down and getting me away from the stinking computer for a few days!!!

Kevin from Tucson down for refresher

Kevin from Tucson down for refresher

Kevin came back down to do a quick refresher course with me. We had a simply fantastic day sailing around the bay. Before we raised the sails here in San Carlos we stopped off at the Aquarium to clean the bottom of the boat and do some quick snorkeling. The water temperature is still around 78 degrees and it was the 7th of November. So much for Global Warming!!!! After sailing in the bay I gave Kevin a trainer kite so he could play on the beach!!! He is hooked on kite boarding now for sure!!!
