Thanks to all my Students who made 2023 such a great year!

I had so many great students for winter of 2023 and 2024 season. There was John, Kip, David and Teresa. There was Sheila, Ken and Tess, Coral and Trevor and Dragan and Jasna. Jeremy, Doug and Ed. There was Kevin and Mike and Roberto and Bart. There was Akim and Anatoli from Vegas. There was Jenna the ice climber and Matti who killed it! There was Richard and Rueben and Joe and Paul. Phil from the south pole was trained on his Telstar 28 folding trimaran, what a boat that was…I believe every group this year had the chance to sail with our local population of bottlenose dolphins .. Thanks to you all for coming to San Carlos and sailing with us!!!

Winter Sailing was full of new dophins

So thanks to all my students who came to sail this January and February, and forgive me for putting all these courses in one blog post! So thanks to John, Ben, Teresa from Canada, Dave from Italy, Leanne from Portland, Ken and Tess from Vancouver, Ruth and John and Sheila our tango instructor extraordinaire from Rim Rock!

You all made this winter season super, but we have to hand it to the great weather conditions we had most of the time, and the dolphins so often came to us. In January and February, we didn’t have to go all the way down the beach to find them. This year they were often right in front of La Posada Beach or just east of Charlies Rock. I got many great ID shots and we have new dolphins in the bay that I have never seen before.

Special thanks to Dragan and Jasna for taking us out on their 42 Catalina!

Congratulations to Kenji and Tess, they purchased a great boat and are starting their new adventures in the Sea of Cortes, Sheila is not far behind and Tess and David will be back sailing their Cal soon enough.

Alex, James, Vy fun in the sun summer sailing

Alex, James, Vy fun in the sun summer sailing

We had 7 no actually more like 10 great days of Sailing and Snorkeling with Alex, James and Vy. We had such a great crew I gave everybody extra days!!!!

We don’t teach that often in Summer but I have to admit that it was great this year. The summer was killer sailing and great snorkeling. This was also a bitter sweet week for us since it was our last time sailing our trimaran Windsplitter. Oso the wonder dog really enjoyed his last sail on Windsplitter chasing the dolphins of el Estero del Soldado!

Beth, Daniel, Sawyer and Marty…7 days plenty of wind!

Beth, Daniel, Sawyer and Marty…7 days plenty of wind!

Well we had 7 days of everything San Carlos has to offer. We had light wind, moderate wind and big wind and Everybody got to sail 4 distinct vessels this week. Our 32 Erickson Sandia, Windsplitter our 40 foot trimaran, Daniel’s 34 foot Catalina named “Nalgas Sucias” and last but certainly not least Bob’s 36 Magellan Shamaness. We even got to see the dolphins on our last day!

Sailing in the time of Covid

Sailing in the time of Covid

I have to admit that I will very much miss Covid. With the event of the lock down San Carlos became the town I moved to over 30 years ago. No drunk tourists, no boats anchored at Martini cove. Empty beach’s all to your self for kite boarding and no traffic. Plus I taught several students over the summer and did no less than three boat deliveries; from San Diego to San Carlos in a Hanse 588 and then back to San Diego from San Carlos in a C & C 37 plus including a quick delivery from San Jose del Cabo to La Paz. Incredible weather on all deliveries.

I hope my students will forgive me for doing one blog post to cover all of them. Special thanks to my Students from Southern Mexico. Fausto, Marina, Marcos and Nestor who rented a beautiful house on the Caracol penninsula and had 7 glorious days of wind at the end of July.

And then Came Vivian! Vivian is currently hanging in Brooklyn but came all the way to San Carlos to do a 7 day course with us in the middle of August. She also had incredible conditions with 7 straight days of wind. We snorkeled every day and it was truly wonderful! Then Nate came down and swept her onto a 650 Kawaski and off they went up the coast of Sonora back to gringolandia! El Pollo Lopez was sad to see their number one client leave San Carlos….

Best Group Ever, mis medicos de Latino America!!

Best Group Ever, mis medicos de Latino America!!

The best group I have had in many a year, I can not thank enough the doctors from Argentina and Mexico for coming to San Carlos and taking a 7 day course. We had wind for 7 straight days of varying intensity and direction. So thanks to Gerardo, Maximiliano, Hector, Ramon and Antonio for 7 great day of sailing. It was a pleasure to teach you guys and show you the beauty of Sonora.
